Evaluation Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

As I discussed in question 1, my magazine was centered around the Indie genre but I also wanted it to appeal to other genres as well. For this reason I did not believe the magazine should be aimed at a niche market, instead should be mass produced for many genres as my magazine does include genres such as folk music, rock and rap.

By accessing the Uk Tribes web page, it was easy to see the brands and activities people of the indie genre liked and this helped develop my magazine. As my magazine was a hybrid, I had to use a front cover image relatively balanced between most genres so for this reason I did not choose clothing associated with one particular genre. The black coat on my front cover helps to mask the clothing and direct focus to the face of the person, rather than drawing attention to stereotypical clothing of a particular genre.

The age range for my magazine is from 14-25, which provides a wide audience for my magazine. This is appropriate due to the articles the magazine contains. The price of the magazine reflects the target audience, as I wanted to make the magazine easily accessable to the age range. By charging £2.50 it is obtainable by school children but still reflects the quality of the magazine which older buyers will be interested in.
